Welcome to Just Poets

Just Poets is a poetry-centered non-profit (501-C3)organization based in Rochester, NY. Our goal is to celebrate both poets and poetry by encouraging and supporting area poets at all levels of ability to improve their work and find their individual poetic voices. We seek to do this through workshops, publications, readings and networking within the literary community.

Just Poets also seeks, as part of its mission, to increase the public's awareness and appreciation of poetry through readings, a speakers bureau, written articles and other educational avenues.

Meetings are usually the first Saturday of every month, except for July (no meeting) and September (meeting will be on the second Saturday due to Labor Day). For meeting locations, check this site or contact us at justpoets@yahoo.com.

Visitors are welcome to attend up to three (3) meetings without joining and may receive one (1) complimentary copy of Poet Talk, the Just Poets monthly newsletter.

Le Mot Juste, the annual Just Poets anthology, is published in the spring. Only members in good standing are eligible to submit work for consideration. Members may read the call for submission on our Members Only page. To purchase a copy of Le Mot Juste 2005 or Le Mot Juste 2006, contact us at justpoets@yahoo.com.

Le Mot Juste

The deadline for submissions is the first Saturday in December, the day of the Just Poets holiday party.

Le Mot Just Deadline

Hello poets,

This is a reminder that submissions for Le Mot Juste 2009 are now being accepted.  Please send three of your best poems to Kathy Van Schaick at kvanscha@rochester.rr.com

We are requesting three poems in order to make the rating process equitable to all.  As a part of the new policy we will be accepting simultaneous submissions, with the stipulation that once a poem has been accepted for LMJ it may not be withdrawn. As stated in a previous message, we hope this will result in fewer "eleventh hour" submissions

The deadline for submissions is the first Saturday in December, the day of the Just Poets holiday party.

The  Gold Star program will officially begin as of October 25, which is coincidentally  the date of your Anthology Queen's birthday. (Retired teachers never get tired of awarding stars for promptness.)

We eagerly await your excellent poems!

Kathy Van Schaick, anthology chair

Donna Marbach, co-chair
